Secrets and Clues

  • A lich used to rule over this hall. Some of his creations remain but he's long gone (a lie).
  • The drow have a small outpost in the north west section. They don't venture deeper into the caves.
  • A clan of bugbears operates out of the north east caves. Grimblade, their chieftan, wants to take over the whole chamber and is waiting for an imbalance among the others to take over.
  • The Troglodytes have their lair on the south east. They are totally obsessed with the obelisk. A band of trolls regularly eats them operating out of caves to the near-south-east. They also love eating bugbears.
  • A pair of wyverns regularly hunt in the larger cavern eating scouts and strays. Everyone leaves them alone.
  • The troglodytes built an effigy to their twisted demon goddess Zuggtmoy. They believe the spire is a way to bring her into the world — a beautiful world of filth and decay.
  • Gnashteeth is an avid reader. He knows there's really good books kept in a crypt in the north west.
  • Grimblade wants the characters to kill Gnashteeth if he's going to go after the troglodytes.
  • Troglodytes are flesh-eating monsters but they're dangerous in packs. Some have become big brutish flesh eaters.
  • Troglogyte cult fanatics are also quite dangerous.
  • There are eight trolls in and around Gnashteeth's den to the south.
  • The wyverns – Goryl and Ravyn – go after anything that's loud and running around the main cavern.
  • Hegrelva the Witch Queen won't leave the spire. Her daughters Bryn and Shanda stay by her side along with her honor guard of tattooed and scarred troglodytes.
  • Hegrelva's daughters want their mother's power and will give up the spire to get it.
  • The spire is protected by an avatar of Zuggtmoy.

Fantastic Locations

  • Bugbear lair – throne built from chipped rock, skulls of troglodytes, troll skull hanging over his throne.
  • Gnashteeth lair – stacks of mouldering books, pile of dismembered ogre and bugbear parts, disposal pit filled with ochre jellies
  • Troglodyte lair – massive effigy of fungal queen, gray spire, large mushrooms, explosive tubes.
  • Ways out:
    • Abandoned mining tunnels with thousands of handprints on it.
    • Moss covered natural tunnels with remnants of an old sewer system from many centuries past.

Game Notes

We meet with Grimblade, the Bugbear chief. We work to convince him that we've killed mindflayers. He proposes a partnership where we sneak over to the trolls, kill their 2-headed chief GnashTeeth while they go after the troglodytes. We rest for the evening, dazzling them with surface dweller stories and card tricks.

We make our way toward the trolls, Chartreuse leads us through a series of caves and tunnels looking for the troll chief. We come across the chief, who is reading math books with one head, and Zaffre attempts to negotiate with head #1. Head #2 says "who the hell are you?" Zaffre weaves some BS about getting the trolls and drow to attack the troglodytes. We end up attacking the chief until he and the rest of the trolls agree to attack the troglodytes. As they head off to the troglodytes one of them gets yoinked by a wyvern. We get lots of loot and burn libermorbus, an infected book.

We make our way out and hear the bugbears sneaking in the troll tunnels.

We head down a series of narrow tunnels deeper into the troglodyte dens as we seek the obelisk. We come to a room filled with wet egg-like sacs hanging from the ceilings and walls with a fetid pool of green liquid. There are 6 troglodytes with spears looking the other way. Chartreuse is about to attack them.
